See plans from $9.99/monthAre these digital books or printed books?
Digital books, made to read in your browser on a tablet, phone or computer. No app download is required, and no printed book is shipped. You can also save a finished book on each device for offline reading; new books and uncached audio need internet.
How do the books become more challenging?
Reading starts from a level guided by your child’s age, school grade and reading comfort. Recent completed books, answers to story clues and word-help activity guide small changes to future books. When they show they’re ready, vocabulary and story complexity increase gradually. Difficulty can also hold steady or ease back to give them more practice. Explore how reading progress guides their books.
What ages is Tale Lantern for?
Adaptive reading practice is designed for independent readers ages 6–10. Parents can also read aloud to younger children using a read-together profile. An adult chooses what fits a younger child; read-together stories are not an independent reading assessment.
What is free, and will I be charged afterward?
6 credits, valid for 30 days: 3 Quick Reads or 2 Regular Adventures. No credit card. No automatic subscription. Your trial never turns into a paid subscription automatically. When the free credits run out or after 30 days, choose a Family subscription to create more. Your completed books stay readable while your account stays open. One-time extra-credit packs require an active Family or Family Plus subscription.
Do I need to upload a photo?
No. Describe your child to create their illustrated character, or choose to upload a photo. Original photos are temporary; they’re removed after character approval or through automatic cleanup. The approved illustration is used in the books. Read about photo privacy.
How long does making a book take?
Books take approximately four minutes to create, though times vary with story length and demand. That includes writing, illustrations and checks. You can leave while yours is being made and opt in to an email when it’s ready. The prepared sample books open right away.
How are the stories made, and what can I control?
Tale Lantern uses AI to write and illustrate stories from your family’s choices. Parents manage characters and story boundaries, can preview finished books, and can turn on approval before children read. AI can make mistakes; you can report a concern from the book. Explore parent controls.
Can we read in Spanish or get help with words?
Yes. Choose English or Spanish when creating a book. In the reader, tap a word for help, listen along, or adjust text and spacing. Try an illustrated Spanish sample.
