Questions families ask about the product

Do we need an iPad or an app?

No. Tale Lantern works in your browser on tablets, phones, and computers. The reading layout is designed with iPad in mind, but an iPad and an app download are not required.

What do we get with the free trial?

Your first 30 days include enough credits for 3 Quick Reads or 2 Regular Adventures. No credit card is required. Your trial never turns into a paid subscription automatically. When the free credits run out or after 30 days, choose a Family subscription to create more. Your completed books stay readable while your account stays open. One-time extra-credit packs require an active Family or Family Plus subscription.

What is Tale Lantern?

Tale Lantern makes private illustrated family stories. Parents can build books to read aloud to younger children; readers ages 6–10 can choose their own adventures with reading support. Choose a theme, approved characters, language, and story length. A parent-led read-together profile does not require a school grade or claim to assess independent reading.

How is each book personalized?

A parent creates each child profile and approves the people, pets, interests, and boundaries that may appear. Children can choose mystery, ocean, space, dinosaurs, animals, sports, magic, treasure, gently spooky, funny, or surprise stories. Continuing story worlds can remember approved characters, places, and unresolved clues from earlier books.

What reading features are included?

Books include adjustable text size, spacing, font, contrast, page density, a reading guide, Listen & Follow narration, tap-for-help vocabulary, story questions, favorites, and a family library. Parents see plain-language reading patterns and can tune each reader's comfort settings.

Does it adapt to my child's reading level?

Tale Lantern starts from the age, grade, and broad reading comfort a parent provides. It then makes small, bounded changes after patterns across completed stories, comprehension clues, and word-help use. Its Reading Path is an instructional estimate—not a standardized, medical, or diagnostic assessment.

Can families create books in more than one language?

Family accounts can create supported books in English or Spanish. The chosen language applies to the story, questions, word help, and reading experience, and a parent can set the usual language for each child.

How are privacy and safety handled?

A parent or guardian owns the household. Children do not need email addresses, passwords, or public profiles. Stories and family characters stay inside the private household, generation follows parent-selected boundaries, and parents have controls to report, hide, replace, export, or delete content and family data.

Can I see the experience before signing up?

Yes. The fictional demo lets you choose different story themes, open several books, try the child reader, explore questions and reading tools, and view a sample parent dashboard. Demo activity is not attached to a real child and does not spend story credits.

What does a subscription include?

Plans provide a monthly pool of story credits for the household, with different book lengths using different amounts. Completed books remain in the family's read-only library after a paid period ends while the account stays open. Visit the plans page for the current allowances and launch availability.

Already have an account?

Parent account, billing, privacy, and safety help

Who creates and manages an account?

A parent or guardian owns the household account. Children use private profiles inside that household and never need an email address, password, or public username.

What happens if a story does not finish?

Tale Lantern keeps the job recoverable and retries only safe, retryable failures. A failed story is not added to the library and does not consume a completed-story allowance. If retry remains unavailable, contact parent support with the approximate time—never send a child's story text.

How do cancellation and expired plans work?

The parent billing portal manages payment methods and cancellation. After the paid period ends, new creation stops and completed books remain in a read-only family library while the account stays open. Parents can export or delete household information at any time. The starting policy is deletion after 24 months without parent account activity, with advance notice and time to sign in or export, subject to final legal and privacy review.

How do I export or delete family data?

A signed-in parent can request an export or household deletion from Parent → Account. Exports expire automatically. Deletion is an audited workflow covering the database, private files, identity, billing references, and configured downstream providers.

How should I report a safety concern?

Pause generation from the parent account and open a private support case with the approximate time and general concern. Do not email screenshots containing a child's face, story text, answers, or profile details unless support provides a secure upload path.

Does Tale Lantern diagnose reading ability?

No. Tale Lantern makes small, bounded story-difficulty adjustments from in-product reading signals and gives parents plain-language trends. It is not an educational, medical, or diagnostic assessment.

Reading without internet

Download each finished book on the device you will use before going offline. A book marked Ready offline includes its text, pictures and story clues on that device. Saved answers sync when you reconnect. New books, uncached audio and word explanations need internet. Signing out removes private offline access; downloads are not shared automatically across devices.

Need parent support?

We’ll start with the least data necessary.

Include the account email and a general description. Never include a child’s full name, password, answers, private image, or generated story text in ordinary email.
