1. Who the service is for
Tale Lantern is designed for parents or guardians to create and manage private child profiles. Reading support is designed for ages 6–10; younger children use parent-led read-together profiles. A child does not register independently, provide an email address, or maintain a public account. The parent is responsible for account access and profile choices.
2. Information we collect
Parent account information can include email address, authentication records, household settings, subscription status, support history, and privacy choices. Child-profile information can include a nickname, age, grade, broad reading band, interests, preferred genres, favorite activities, recurring fictional character descriptions, and an optional private reference image.
The service also stores generated stories and illustrations, story-world continuity facts, reading position, completion events, word-help requests, comprehension answers, difficulty adjustments, safety outcomes, and limited operational metadata such as job state, provider request identifiers, token/image usage, cost estimates, and audit records.
3. Why we use information
We use data to authenticate the parent, operate the private household, personalize and preserve stories, adapt reading difficulty gradually, answer word-help requests, show parent insights, enforce subscription allowances, keep the service safe and reliable, respond to support, and fulfill export or deletion requests.
4. AI processing
Configured AI providers may process the minimum context needed to generate or moderate a story, question, word explanation, or illustration. Tale Lantern constrains requests, screens output, and records operational identifiers without putting raw child prompts, answers, or story text into ordinary monitoring dashboards. Provider retention and training settings must be reviewed and configured before public launch.
5. Sharing and sales
We do not sell personal information or run child-directed advertising. We share information only with service providers needed for hosting, authentication, generation, storage, billing, security, support, and parent-consented analytics; when required by law; or as part of a reviewed business transfer. A current provider list and applicable data terms will be maintained before public launch.
6. Analytics choices
Privacy-conscious product analytics starts on for new parent accounts when launch configuration permits it. Analytics must not contain a child’s name, private image, story text, answers, or word-help content. The parent can turn it off at any time from the account privacy controls, and an existing saved choice remains authoritative.
7. Retention, export, and deletion
Data is retained while needed to provide the service, meet the published retention schedule, resolve security or billing obligations, or preserve a parent-requested library. After a paid plan ends, completed books remain in a read-only library while the parent account remains open. The starting retention policy is deletion after 24 months without parent account activity, with advance notice and time to sign in or export, subject to final legal and privacy review before public sales. A signed-in parent can request a portable export or household deletion at any time. Export files expire automatically. Deletion covers active database records, private files, identity, billing references, and configured downstream providers while retaining only narrowly scoped pseudonymous receipts needed to prove and secure the operation.
8. Security and family controls
Tale Lantern uses household authorization, database row-level security, private storage, signed asset access, service-only operational tables, secret separation, audited sensitive workflows, and generation controls. No system can guarantee absolute security; suspected incidents follow the documented response and notification process.
9. Parent choices and requests
A parent can review and edit household profiles, remove reference images or story worlds, control optional analytics and AI personalization settings, export data, or request deletion. Identity verification or recent re-authentication may be required for sensitive requests.
10. Changes and contact
Material changes will be dated and presented to the parent when additional consent or notice is appropriate. Privacy questions can be sent to support@talelantern.com.
